Verdict: High-End Features For Those On A Budget

The Bottom Line

A budget-friendly 4.3-inch widescreen GPS that offers many of the same features found on the Garmin's more expensive devices. Equipped with trafficTrends and myTrends, ecoRoute, text-to-speech, lane guidance, the 2350 LMT also includes free lifetime map updates and realtime traffic service. Menus are intuitive and the map is easy to read. No bluetooth, and the screen isn't as high resolution as the more expensive nuvi 3700 series, but it's hard to quibble at this price.

Fletch, I notice "Optimize" is greyed out in the menu. Other recent models are (still) waiting for this promised update as well as compatibility with transferred routes. Is the 23xx series still lacking these functions and, if so, is Garmin indicating they're still on schedule for a 1st quarter firmware update that offers them?

They claim they will be issuing an update that will fix this.

When you say as a con that it there is "No 3D lane guidance", are you referring to the Junction View? From the Garmin website, this model does include Junction View. From other comments I have read, some early engineering models as well as a few of the first batches may have come with the wrong map.

I know Garmin's website says it has 3D junction view, but I was never able to get it to appear. When I ran the same route along side a nuvi 3760T, 3D junction would appear multiple times, and never showed up on the 2350. Not sure if I had a special test unit or something. I'll check with Garmin.

I noticed the boxed 2350LMT does show the 3D Lane view on the back of the box. The Garmin website also indicates "Lane assist (with junction view). I just bought one at Fry's for $199 plus tax and have not checked out this feature, but will report what I find after I use it.

Me again on 3D lane view. I can confirm the 2350LMT does indeed have the 3D lane view which is activated at only certain major interchanges. I have seen it appear briefly when approaching a confusing turn. It only stays on long enough for you to enter the interchange then it disappears. It does not appear on every turn, but it does seem to work as advertised on the box and the website. Overall, I am very happy with the 2350LMT.

3D Lane UPDATE: I just downloaded the latest map update 2012.20 on Aug 17,2011 and noticed there seem to be more 3D lane views. They are very realistic and seem to be the actual signs. They have even included HOV entrances to keep you out of trouble. If you haven't updated your maps, suggest you do it now since this unit includes free map updates.

What 'bout places like CA where windshield mounting is illegal? What alternative do I have?

I was considering replacing my 775T with a 2360LMT instead of getting lifetime maps for the 775T, but I'm not happy with the fact that the 2360LMT doesn't have bicycle navigation mode like the 775T does.

Sure, the 775T bicycle mode isn't perfect and misses some bike-only routes, but it actually isn't bad.

I replaced my 765 with a 2360. So far it is a good upgrade. The 765 would crash a lot - so far not the new one. The music player is sad to lose, but Garmin blew it by never trying to make the player a more modern utility. The favorite search strings (noted by the envelope icon next to the search area is gone, but perhaps even better is the recent suggestions function. The voice recognition is pretty good.

Once I set a speed limit for a certain road, is there any way to delete the limit I have set? What if I change my mind and don't want it displayed?

Thanks.

All Garmin nuvis do this when driving around and NOT navigating to a destination.

I have an old Garmin 260 I bought four years ago & just bought the lifetime map updates, now I want to buy a second Garmin (for my wife's new pet sitter occupation)& want to spend around $200 (street price). Should I get the 1490LMT or this 2350LMT? Which is the better unit?

Go with the larger screen 1490, you'll love it.

I hope to see a review o the Garmin 2460 before I go on vacation because this might be a Garmin I may want. And compare it to the garmin 3790. So we know what one has and the other dose not have.

I use to like this site but they are way behind on there reviews. I went to GPS Tracklog they do a great job on there reviews and you don't have t wait so long for the reviews like you do here. They do a great job here o there reviews but you have to wait way to long.

Are POIs updated when a map is updated?

This site needs to go into history and tell how good it use to be.

I just ordered Garmin 2350 LTM from Costco yesterday (haven't receive it though) for 159.99 plus HST. I would like to know whether this unit has frozen problem? I have garmin 1350 right now and it freezes a lot and take a long time (like 5 to 10 minutes) to start up. Hopefully, Garmin 2350 LTM doesn't have this problem to deal with. Thanks.

Hi,

You know how the "dashboard disk" comes in the box? Does this mean that I can put it on the dashboard instead of windshield?
If it is possible, I think I want to put it on dashboard rather than window....feels a bit safer.

Could you advise me on this? (if that disk is for that, could you tell me what to do?)

Thanks so much!

Why do I need to enter a city name first? I mean a good navigator would allow me to start entering a street name and then display a list of locations, starting with the nearest, where this street name exists. This is a much more intelligent way of entering data for a trip, but I guess I have to choose a Tomtom to get this.
