Garmin's new Oregon 550t is a rugged, waterproof outdoor handheld GPS that combines a high-sensitivity GPS receiver with a built-in 3.2-MP autofocus digital camera. The Oregon 550t comes preloaded with topographic maps of the U.S., has a 3-axis tilt-compensated electronic compass, a barometric altimeter, and the ability to wirelessly share data with other Oregon handhelds.
I received my Oregon 550t this weekend, and will be posting the full in-depth review soon. I know many of you are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the newest Oregon GPS, so I'm posting the unboxing photos now, as well as some initial impressions.
Its like Christmas - but is the screen realy brighter?
Well, the screen is not the brightest you can have, but when it comes to real world and real usage then is definitely good enough for the job it is expected to do.
In my case (combined use for hiking and off-roading in different parts of the world on a hobbist level) the advantages are more than the downsides like the screen brightness.
Can you save tracks to the SDK card?
Almost bought the Garmin Oregon 400T but after reading all the bad reviews regarding the screen visibility under direct sunlight, I decided not to. Can anyone tell me if there is a difference and if it is better?
Any news on the GPS accuracy of the Oregon 550t?
I was ready to buy the 400 and Colorado, but read bad things about them so I held off. Looked at the Magellans not any better. I hope finally this unit is worth purchasing.
this unit Oregon 550t is very powerfull for traveling .
