Magellan has released 5 new RoadMate models: the RoadMates 1210, 1220, 1340, 1440, and 1470. Ranging in price from $139.99 to $229.99, these new models sport an updated, slim design, highway lane assist, and have Magellan's handy "OneTouch" menu customization feature.
The 1470 is in stock and available only at Amazon, and the other models will be available soon. Read on for all the details, pricing, and availability.

Free traffic link @ Amazon until April 30
I've been trying to decide what to get and was leaning toward the Garmin 760 or Garmin 265wt.....this one doesn't have bluetooth....but it gives me something else to think about...wonder how long before we'll start hearing opinions, reviews, etc. a month or so probably.
...also at "Best Buy" in Canada
where can i buy it?
Amazon $249.00 plus free traffic
Fletch,
Can you tell me if it has the ability to load GPS coordinates?
Thanks,
Andy
The issue appears to be resolved this morning. Quite a few reports of success.
what issue is that?
I suspect you meant to post this comment under the article about Garmin's new 2010 map update not working for some users.
Actually on sale from Amazon for $229.99 with free wireless...not 249
Will we be seeing reviews for these Roadmate Onetouch units any time soon?
Yes - I have a 1470 on the way. Should have it reviewed within the next 2 weeks or so.
Hope you can get some thoughts up before the April 30th deadline on the Amazon deal with the free traffic adapter.
I am particularly interesting if that device has or has not pedestrian mode?
Thanks
I'm curious about this one. I have been on the fence for a while and recently bought a Nuvi 265T, but am disappointed with its performance. This may be an alternative for me.
what do you not like about the garmin 265wt? I have been leaning toward that one. The negatives I have heard about Magellan's customer support makes me nervous about this one.
looks good, but also considering the navigon 7200t for around the same price range. Which should i pick?
I have the non-widescreen version of the T. My main complaints are the size of the screen (thought I could get by with the 3.5" but I hate the non-qwerty keyboard and smaller buttons)
The maps/routing are a little odd, but that can be expected with nearly every unit as there is always a lesser-known better way of getting somewhere.
What was most disturbing was the volume/sound quality of the speaker and bluetooth performance. The speaker just sucks. It's quiet and if you turn it up above 70 or 80%, the sound distorts badly. This negatively impacts bluetooth performance as well. My phone paired fine, but even at engine idle with no radio or climate control on, the person on the other end couldn't understand a word I said.
I'll return this and look very closely at the new Magellan or perhaps a Tomtom (but have read bad things about routing on the Tomtom)
I've had the 1470 for over a week and I love what Mio and Magellan have done. It is not as feature rich as the Magellan 4000 series but that is why you pay $229.00 w/traffic receiver at Amazon. I've used Garmins for the last 10 years and I have sold my 765t and use the 1470 exclusively.
CONS:
takes approximately 1 minute to boot up.
no pedestrian mode
no current road speed limit
cannot add POI's (like Garmin and TomTom)
cannot use MSN maps, Google maps or any of the online maps to transfer directions to the unit
traffic receiver plugs into unit not the bracket
no map subscription plan
can't chamge vehicles
no bluetooth
no FM transmitter
no mp3 player
PROS:
Great 4.7" slim screen
great volume
easy to use
6 million POI database
easily avoid streets from your route
free lifetime traffic (look at the map on Amazon to see coverage)
one touch buttons
Quickspell
4 routes to choose from
Option to easily insert via to your route
•AAA TourBook data
Exit POIs
•Supports multi-destination routing with route optimization (ability to sort a list of addresses by distance)
•Ability to search for POIs along the route
•Ability to search for POIs near your destination
It's not perfect but I love it. Mio and Magellan have a great product.
Your right, I have a Garmin 780, but still prefer to use my Magellan 1470, love the wide screen, if your on a divided road it shows it, on the Garmin if I put it to show divide road, my animated car would be lagging on the map screen, I would pass a cross street but Garmin would be 4 seconds or more behind, Magellan is right on target. Not as many toys but gets you to the location..
Does the 1340 (3.5") use less power than the 1440 (4.3"), which uses less power than the 1470 (4.7" screen)?
Larger LCD screens draw more power, don't they?
All 3 models are listed at 3 hours battery life...
1470 going for $180 today (9 June 09) on Amazon.com (no free Traffic Link adapter though).
