With no description or explanation as to what the update does, Garmin has posted a mysteriously named "GPS Chipset Type M" firmware update for the nüvi 7x5 models. This comes in addition to the larger 2.50 software update that fixed a number of Bluetooth issues with the 7x5.
Anyone out there know what this update does? I've installed it, but so far haven't noticed anything different.

I believe it updated the MTK GPS chipset software to version 2.80...
This update did not show up for my 785t.
Check in the about page to see if your GPS software is already at 2.80
After upgraded to firmware v2.50, performance and stability of my 755T dramatically increased. Touch screen is more responsive and sensitive. Issues related to 3rd party maps and proximity alert also resolved. Now, I am a very happy and satisfied 7x5T user. There are still minor problems, such as MP3 skips/forward when near the proximity alert points, but it is negligible.

7x5 was released with major programing issues. My 765T and according to tech support of Garmin, all 7x5 have the same issues, I was told to wait for a new update.
The main problem 7x5 have is, "automatically turning itself on and off while you are driving near any major intersection with lane assist kicking in" the glich is related to lane assist according to Garmin.
The update fixed my 765T problem with automatically turning itself on and off, on and off...., it is a good unit, I got my 765T on sale for $499. however I also got nuvi 750 for only $198 at sams club, costco also have it for $198.
750 does not have the blue tooth, (blue tooth never worked correctly, they could not hear me well on the other end)but lane assist is the only major difference between 750 and 765T and it is not worth the extra $300, (also trafic on 765t is free for life) I think 750 is much better deal than any of 7x5 models
2.8 is actually an older chipset update released a few weeks ago, not intended for just the 7x5's, but all the Garmin devices using MTK chipset.
