The RoadMate 1430 is the latest model in Magellan's celebrated RoadMate product line.

The RoadMate 1430 doesn't have the Bluetooth, AAA TourData, or Voice Recognition found on the higher-end Magellan Maestro models, but it does have a strong set of core navigation capabilities aimed at the driver more concerned with ease of use than bells and whistles.

Nice review. The new lighting and sound level measurements should prove interesting as more units are reviewed.

I am curious though as to why you measured the light output for the unit on the unit's Main Menu screen, as opposed to the map screen.

When comparing different units, I think many would find it more useful to know which GPS has the brighter screen during navigation, as opposed to which is brighter on the menu screen.

I measured screen brightness using the Main Menu because it is the same on most Magellan units. The map screen has changed more significantly in recent models. Garmin, TomTom, and other units allow you load and view photos, so I'll load a standard TV test pattern on those so I can test the brightness accurately across different brands.
