I wish they had this for the iPhone since I have one.
Well I have the Blackberry (8330) which already has the gps chip and I'm jumping on it.
Basically, NavTeq and Garmin is betting on everyone NOT TO KEEP THEIR Cell phones for more than a few years, so the lifetime subscription pricing is more like an 18-24 months plan for most which works out to be about $50 a year and you pay for it up front.
Sound great but it really is not that wonderful of a deal when you look at the bigger picture.
I think there will be free mapping updates based on POI content much like the old Yellow pages use to be. Merchants will have to pay to be put on the top of the POI searches near a certain area.
gps4me, you are probably right in guessing that at some point we're going to see advertising on our maps, perhaps even pop-ups.
I would get this service if it were transferable. Since it's tied to one device, it's not worth it!
I would definitly get this for my blackberry 8120 but only this year i switched between 3 blackberrys and since it is not transferable it is so not worth it. . .
I have had the new BB9000 (Bold) since August (2 months plus) and my trackball failed. My carrier sent me a replacement Bold with a new PIN. The Garmin software seems nice even if it lasts a year to a year and one half, but in the case of device replacement due to a problem, this could be quite unfortunate. I would like to know if I would be covered under this scenario. My carrier (Rogers) seems to have washed its hands of any 3rd party software issues due to a new PIN.
