TeleType's WorldNav

I get a lot of emails asking for a GPS specifically designed for truck drivers. Until now there haven't been many options for those riding on multiple axles. TeleType's WorldNav system lets you enter your truck's height, weight, and length, knows about commercial truck restrictions on certain roads, and a host of other large-vehicle specific features (even Hazmat routing). Available in 3.5 and 7-inch versions. Read on for all the details.

My Garmin C550 has a "truck" vehicle profile on it. From what I can tell it tries to favor freeways and interstates.

is there a way that i can download new information or update my 2200T on line.

i;am a truck driver, and this information would be very helpful

I heard from one of the truckers in our company that 7 inch WorldNav from TeleType works well for him. He can specify the hazmat level and hight of his truck.

I think that instead of laptop I will consider this GPS unit.

can this unit(3300)be switch from truck to car

Could someone at gpsmagazine obtain one of these units and write a review. Truckers have been waiting for years for what this product suggests it will do. Unfortunately, there are zero reviews on the net and truckers don't have the disposable income to "test" things out.

I bought a 3300, and i am a truck driver. the unit is good but its got some bugs it. I would just like to say, it's easy to blame a little box for getting you lost. you can't rely on the unit by its self, it is simply a tool to aid you with the maps (Maps don't run out of power, or reception) as of now i am running teletypes april 08 update... what they advertise to offer sounds almost too good to be true.... It will steer you away from wieght restricted roads, but the update i'm useing has no clue about bridge heights in the area I drive. but it does in the larger cities and towns...

I spoke to thier tech support, Ed and he informed me they were sending me a second update this week that should correct the problem...Tech support is very good. the are working on the bugs, and stand behind there unit, with an update every couple months... when i find a map issue on a road (low bridge, dead end ect), i mark the Lat & Long location, and send them an email with the concrening info... I hope the info is in this update....we will see...
the over all navagtion is good, very good most of the time. there are some parts of the state that have bad reception. the 3300 has never lost signal for more the 2 seconds, and seems to bounce back quickly, and accurately. the functions are practical and easy...you can zoom in and out of the screen, to get an idea of what kind of road your on, and at night when you can't see street labels, I just keep an eye on the gps, the streets are all labeled....

as a truck driver, I don't relay on anything but myself to get me to my destination saftly and in a timly manor....

i use it as a tool: i type my 1st stop location into the gps, i look on the route info menue on the gps, then I get out my map, to get an idea of where it's sending me, then navagate the best route that i see.

Now, if I already know where i'm going, and it's not the way the gps wants me to go, the 3300 will catch onto my route , with in a turn or two, 85% of the time.I Don't rely on it for keeping me away from low bridges, I talk to other drivers, and use a map with rail road markings for that.

The software and menus are great. it's easy to see, and easy to use. the 3300 holds pictures, plays music, & videos, about 225+ songs and 2hrs of movies, + 100 pics... it has 12+ million POI which are easly searchable, by location or phone number. you can search the location of intersection...It displays weight stations on highway AND interstates, $350 fine for missing one, that would buy on of these 3300 units....

hears my only complaint about the unit: comes with only one tiny speaker on the back. as soon as i start the truck, i can't hear a word it mumbles. an FM transmitter seemed to solve that little issue. battery life it's the greatest. 2.5hr from full to empty, but it's working hard the unit is sending and receiving gps data constantly, running comp, for the visuals, and it's playing music...so how good could it really get? it's enough time to charge a cell phone/headset...just be sure to have extra fuses.

So is the WorldNav 3300 deluxe worth it?

HELL YA! Its worth its weight in gold....the unit paid for itself the 2nd week i had it..as a truck driver it, by far, has been the most helpful tool for me to accuratly get to where i need to be, quicker than ever. finding short cuts to places no one dared to find...we all know that getting lost for 2 hrs is more like 4-6hrs all said and done...I would strongly recommend this unit to the rookies. employers need accuracy, because in the end they are the ones who pay for you experiance...the worldnav 3300 will help you be a better driver, and make money faster, and thats what it's all about.

I work with other guys that use the garmins, & tom toms, and they all have a truck setting, but none of them can specify 13'6" 80k lbs 53'x 96". since i've been using mine, a couple of other drivers have bought a worldnav model....

hope this was helpful, don't be afiad to contact www.teletype.com, they'll help you out.

i'll follow up on the new update after ive had a chance to mess around with it....

It is 8:45 P.M CDST in the midwest. About an hour earlier I sent an E-mail to TeleType explaining that I really liked what I read about the 7100 on this site, but that I needed a louder speaker.

I am astounded that I received this reply back a few minutes ago:

Hello George,

Our model 7200 has much louder speakers.

7100 has 1 watt and 7200 1.5 watt

Hope that helps.

Please also keep in mind that we have jack just like iPOD that can be connected to stereo speakers on both 7100 and 7200 and model 7200 can play via fm radio as it has FM transmitter built in.

We would greatly appreciate if you can post this answer on E-Zine GPS reviews.

Being a truck drive is not easy. Being a truck driver without knowning all the roads is even more difficult. My truck school teacher recommended me WorldNav. I got it not ago and I agree that it worth every penny of it. Although I have the unit only several months I got updated 2 times. So far so good. I like the unit. Planning to install backup camera from GPS Planet.

Just purchased the 3.5" WorldNav for my nationwide trucking routes. So far, it is the worst ever! It won't even find truck routes for me. I had to switch back to my Garmin, because this thing needs to be updated. With as much money as it costs, it should have already been updated before I got it.

Why do we need to "swap" cards? I don't ever have to do that with my Garmin, or the Nextar I bought. It worked and got me from door to door after pulling it out of the box.

Another thing I don't like about the WorlNav, is the cheesy mount that comes with it. It is really a cheapy!

On my Garmin, or Nextar ... I use the SD card slot for other things ... not for a newer or updated version from the company. I find this very difficult to do as a truck driver.

I don't have time to get lost, go 57 minutes out of my way, wait for an updated map or route at a ramp it just told me to take ... I lost my bonus today, all because of this stupid piece of crap! I've never lost bonus with a Garmin.

This thing won't even get me where I need to go. I tried it in my car too, and the car routing works, but lags behind. You would think it would be exceptional for the price.

I'm now using Co Pilot. My laptop is big, it has live updates, and traffic/accident alerts ... no more having to send in and wait for the arrival of my new SD card. I'm out on the road 2 weeks and only have Saturday and Sunday to do any type of shopping or returns, mail, etc. I definitely don't have time to wait on standard mail (5-7 days), for the trade to arrive.

This is very frustrating! And, if bought online through Radio Shack ... you have to send it back by mail. They won't take it back in the store for a quicker return. This was truly a learning experience! Never Again!!!!!

Overall rating would have to be POOR! That goes for Radio Shack too. Can't take in to store if bought online.

Good Luck fellow Nationwide Truckers!!! BEWARE!!!!!!

I don't recommend Teleype at all for both operational and ethical reasons. If you can wait for a very short time, Goodyear is supposed to offering their own "branded" truck navigation solution. Reportedly allows you to input truck height and length, loaded weight, cargo restrictions, etc and create appropriate routing. I'll see if I can dig up the press release from last week and post a link.

my boss bought me this when I asked for a truck specific GPS. ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY NO DOUBT A USELESS PIECE OF GARBAGE > DO NOT BUY> it will take you to places where you cant fit and over bridges you are too heavy for after you input all your info I had 80000 pounds and 13'6" took me over 10 ton bridges consistently put me through places a truck DOES NOT belong, I cant trust it. Mapquest is WAY WAY BETTER they dont even take you through local neighborhoods like this piece of crap. Also it will take you off a highway just to put you right back on it. Use it once in a truck and you'll be f@#$ed bad.

I bought the WorldNav 3300 for my husband because he drives a truck and he can get lost in a closet. The unit would work, I suppose, if it would stay on! We bought it Sept 18, 2008. We registered it though we did not get a confirmation. The unit shuts off if it's cord moves. It plugs in tight but the inside loses connection. The inside is loose. My husband is very careful with it because he is technology challenged. He sits very still inputs his info and starts to go, once the cord moves off it goes. He cannot sit and hold this thing so it doesn't move. I have emailed them and asked for help to no avail, they do not respond. Some of you say you called their tech support how in the world did you get a number TO call? It appears we have a $350 useless paperwieght and a company that will not stand behind it's product. We did not have the money to waste, I am very disappointed. I thought I was helping him and only made things worse!
