The WorldTracker GPRS is a portable, Assisted-GPS tracking device capable of sending real-time position reports every 15 seconds. The battery operated device sells for around $650, works indoors and out, operates on the the GSM network, sports a high-performance SiRF StarIII receiver, is water resistant, and can alert if you if the device moves into or out of a pre-defined area.
Note that Brickhouse Security also sells this same device under the name "W-Trac GPRS".
Is the WorldTracker GPRS the ultimate child/teen/adult/vehicle tracking device and worth the hefty price tag? Read on.
Interesting, but even more so would be the iPaq 310 review that was promised for end January!
Agree with Infama. I'd settle for you at least mentioning the new Tomtom models announced today. You mention everyone else's...
A similar product is the GpsGate Server @ gpsgate.com. Would be intreresting to see a review of it also.
Thanks for helping make scense of the huge personal GPS tracking universe. This looks like a good choice for kids and pets. The mapping webpage looks like one of the best and easiest to use I've seen so far. I'd trade the complicated reports designed for fleet tracking and their clunky maps for this anyday. The ability to track using the map pages for smartPhones is VERY handy.
Who and when invented this product? Who's idea was this?
Thanks so much for the reviews! I need something that I can put on a toddler that doesn't look totally ridiculous. The suggestions from some people to put the monitor in a coat pocket only works in winter and still a 2" by 1" block is a pretty clunky and too-obvious thing to stick on a toddler.
The WorldTracker GPRS sounds like the best choice, except that it's still too big and I'd like to see it in a hard-to-remove, waterproof, watch style -- somewhat similar to the ion child locator, but better disguised as a watch.
Hopefully, the next round of miniturization will achieve what I want.
Thanks again!
I would like to see maybe a tracking device made in a bracelet, necklace or anklet inside a pair of earrings.Box the device in gold or silver and attach it to a nice chain. something small and that could be put actually on the child that would not be taken off. Maybe very small girls and boys watches that are not so obvious like different colors and maybe cartoon characters on the face.
