I would say that the best buy is Garmin 750. It has everything one GPS is suppose to have. All other features (mp3 player, fm transmitter, traffic, etc.) are features you have to pay for or do not belong to GPS.

Great info here to save a lot of heartache later. But how come no reviews or mention of the Navigon systems?

As a GPS specific retailer for the past 11 years and also a person that have been very passionate about GPS PND.
I can tell you that currently, the market is still very price driven. The TomTom ONE is flying off the shelves at the $224,95 price minus the $100 factory rebate makes this unit a $124.95 units. Hardware stores such as Orchards Hardware part of Sears is selling the units at $100 and no tax.
Every store ran out of units with in minutes of opening including ours.
You may think TomTom is not up to par but in fact the TomTom products has been a very good unit for the value and Garmin have nothing that can touch it at that price point.
Customer looking to pay for a BT unit that is under $200, we had a hard time selling him a name brand product at that price.
I think TomTom and Mio will capture 40-45% of NA BF sales volume this season, we will just have to see what the NPD numbers look like when they are available.
I would think Magellan and Garmin will lose market share due to price point this BF.
All TomTom's and Mio's was sold out in minutes, still find lots of Garmin and Magellan products on the shelves except he $299 Nuvi 650 which I wish I could have secured a few thousand units, but each store only have one or two, it was a real leader item to say the least.
I tell my customer when they asked us to match the price to stand outside the door for about 5 hours and come in and we can tell them we are out also, matching the price does not mean you will get one at the price they suck you in at.
Just my thoughts

If it's Garmin? It's recommended here. Take the advice here with a grain of salt. All Garmin all the time here. With not much objectivity,

My question is why was the TOM TOM One Xl the most popular sold GPS on Black friday if it the worst GPS for navigation.....I feel sorry for the people who bought them and the other cheap 200.00 GPS units out there.....they will be kicking themselves in the rear when they get lost.

I personally did my research and got a Garmin Nuvi 650 and it has been Great!

I wish people would do their research....I think it has to do with all the TOMTOM commercials we see...and they influences their buying decision....Ive seen way more TOM TOM commercials lately then the Garmin.

I am pretty much crazy about doing reseach before buying anything. One of the things I look for is product knowledge, support and OK, internet presence. I confess, I am an in the closet techno geek.

There may be "just as good as" Garmins out there. TomToms, etc. But Garmin has the biggest presence with the most amount of information. I like their website too. And there are a lot of accessories to custom fit Garmins into a particular situation.

Maybe GPSMag is Garmin leaning. I'm OK with that. That sorta makes them experts with Garmin and a good source of information. Because of all the available data on Garmin, I managed to put a 755T on my Christmas list. I hope I don't end up with an Ace Hardware Nextar Touch Screen 79.95!
