In an effort to prevent further Grand Theft Auto re-enactments, General Motors will stock half of their 2009 vehicles with OnStar’s "Stolen Vehicle Slowdown technology". This potentially life-saving technology has the ability to “depower” the stolen car before a high-speed car chase can happen.
OnStar, who already uses its GPS system to track stolen vehicles, will now be using its technology to locate and cut the fuel to the engine of the stolen car. For safety reasons, however, the car will still have the ability to steer and brake, says OnStar president Chet Huber.
