Comments for Magellan (Finally) Updates the Maestro 4040, Releases Firmware 2.24

After almost 4 months of waiting, Magellan has finally updated the Maestro 4040's software to version 2.24, making the 4040 consistent with the rest of the Maestro product line.

Looks like 2.24 is a major update that resolves many of the complaints I had when I first reviewed the Maestro 4040 back in April '07, and makes the 4040's map screen and user interface look like the Maestro 4050 and 3140.

My observation:
Highs:
1.Better night mode but still to bright compere to Garmin.
2. 30 sec Auto power off.
3. Better screen lay out and fonts.
4. Very fast start up!

Lows:
1. TTS - still bad with long names.
2. Display map location has lag.
3. Bad position accuracy around tall buildings or deep canyons.
4. Still very limited Blue-tooth support.

I bought 4040 at costco last week it came with 2.0x firware. I went to Magellan siite for firmware upgrade, but could not find a link to download. "Get the latest firmware update" takes us back to support page. Magellangps site is one messed up site. They should fire their web team and get a better one.

I bought a 4040 that had firmware version 2.04 in it. The latest firmware for 40X0 is 2.36. You can try to download it on the Magellan website, but unfortunately after the download, you find out that you cannot unzip it. Reason is, it is broken with multiple errors. Last I talked with Support they said it would be several days before it was fixed. I am, to say the least, very disappointed.

I was able to download the newest version(2.36). I'm definetly not happy. Major problems with Cellphone and Bluetooth. Unit locks up and freezes frequently to the point that I have to reset after every startup. Only recommendation I can make at this time is not to update and avoid at all costs pair-up with cellphone.
Don't bother with support! Impossible to get any kind of answers.
Go with another GPS if possible!!!!!

The screen zooms out without my direction. Other than that so far o.k.?

I concur with JMiller. I updated the 4050 with Firmware 2.36 v3 and I have had nothing but problems ever since - incorrect directions, ETA time increasing or decreasing by as much as 8 hours. I'm not sure who they got the program their maps, but something is definately wrong with that version. Magellan has not provided support as of yet (other than asking me to reset, re-install the firmware, etc.) - but I'm still hoping.

I downloaded the latest version (2.36) and have had no problems so far, though I downloaded it today. The only thing is that I cannot access the SMS feature. Anyone have/had problems with this? Also, does anyone have the or a code to unlock the voice recognition? Thanks for all your help!

I am also getting tired of waiting for a map update and a lack of solid bluetooth support.
