Like ipods and the new iphone...More Content, Restriction, Annulment, and Protection...aka: 'C.R.A.P.' which is a catchier phrase than DRM - Digital Rights Management.

Technology that restricts use of a device's content.

Once you've bought music or other content to play on one device, it won't play on any other device because of the proprietary layer of CRAP.

Seems pretty dumb to go to apple for GPS instead of a proven GPS manufacturer like Garmin or Magellan. Apple makes things pretty, but like the iPhone, they also make things with very limited real world functionality.

MERCEDES' GPS NAV SYSTEM IS THE WORST IN THE INDUSTRY. INREDIBALLY THE CHRYSLER SYSTEM, THAT MERCEDES OWNED, IS LIGHT YEARS AHEAD. WHAT A WASTE OF ENGINEERING AT MB TO COME UP WITH THE DUMBEST NAV AND TEL SYSTEM ONE CAN BUY WITH A CAR!

THESE ARE THE KIND OF INADEQUATE ACCESSORIES THAT HAS HELPED SELL JAPANESE AND CANADIAN CARS. THE MB TEL AND NAV IS VERY FRUSTRATING AND TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE - AND WILL DRIVE MANY TO PURCHASE A LEXUS OR OTHER AUTO WITH STATE OF THE ART ACCESSORIES.

There is some conjecture that Apple will re-invent the wheel and develop GPS technology for the 09 Mercedes. I feel this venture is uncharacteristic of a company that enjoys being ahead of the curve.

Apple would be well served to team up with a company like Garmin, whos Nuvi 880 will be completely voice activated. I fear apple will be behind the curve.

I couldn't agree more. I just purchased a 2008 C300 sport with the media package which includes Mercedes COMAND Navi. It is terrible! I am now going to have to keep my Garmin and put it on the dash for when I really need to find a place. The interface is wholly impossible to use and is very user UNfriendly. Makes me wish I would have looked more into the Navi before I bought.

Any possible way to update the navi to Garmin and keep it integrated, bc it does look pretty.
