I would add if you wish to have VR feature, the Magellan Maestro 4050 is an option for now.

I am interested in purchasing the Garmin Nuvi 660, but I've been holding off because I read on here somewhere that they were about to update their maps and I didn't want to have to pay extra for the latest maps.

Do you know if they've updated the North American maps yet? (What version is the latest -- version 9?) If I buy the 660 off of amazon.com right now, would I get the latest maps?

Garmin is within a week or two of releasing updated maps. If you buy it now, you won't get the new maps, AND Garmin won't upgrade you for free.

Better wait a week or two and order it once the new maps are released. Once the maps are officially released, Garmin says they'll upgrade you if you purchased after that date and the GPS didn't ship with v9 maps.

Thank you for the heads up. I'll keep checking in here -- I imagine you'll let us know when Garmin updates their maps?
