Garmin nuvi 250W

Why should the high-end nuvi 600-series have all the wide-screen fun? Garmin has updated their entry-level nuvi 200 series and busted out the nuvi 200W and the nuvi 250W, upgrading the display to a 4.3" wide display with improved resolution.

Irritates me some to have this come out just after I bought my Nuvi 250.

But once I think about it a bit more... I'm perfectly pleased with my 250 and probably would have chosen it over the wide-screen anyway. I expect the wide-screen will be slightly less portable and likely burn through the battery much quicker... two things that are quite important to me.

With no other new features (text-to-speach, bluetooth, etc) I wouldn't find much value in the increase in price.

I have not figured out the benefit of having a wider screen, but then again, I only use the "track up" setting. I never really had a need to see a lot of mapping way off to my left and right. Am I missing something?

Yeah, you are missing about .8" or 20% more of viewing area PLUS the screen is much brighter under sunlight and the wider area allows you to view more streets around you. Other than that, it is useless to have a larger screen! ;)

No TTS? The dumbing down/excluding features of Garmin devices continues. I guess we have to wait a few months for an antenna-less nuvi with TTS. No doubt it won't include road exclusions, multi-routing, optimizing routes and other goodies the older, more superior (software/feature-wise) StreetPilots had of yesteryear. But, hey, maybe the new nuvis will double as electric razors and picture viewers!

Tis a pity that such a wonderful company has taken this route.

If only Magellan would get these features right....Well at least they offer them, flaws notwithstanding.

Above, GPS4ME questioned the usefulness of a widescreen GPS.

If you look at the display, you will notice that the more distant streets at the top of the screen are compressed and actually shows more streets in the distance (vertically) than what is shown to each side (horizontally). Distance is not shown linearly across the entire display.

Remember in art class when you were taught how to use the vanishing point to show the perspective of distance? At that convergance point, there is no distance but in reality, it is infinite distance. GPS displays use that same technique. The top of the GPS display is approaching that vanishing point.

Hope I explained that OK.

Is there any way I can hook up my nuvi 360 to my car speakers.
