Windshield Mount Residue

Here in the Northeast, Spring has sprung, and the sorely missed summer weather is finally upon us. Last week when the thermometer hit close to 90 degrees, I tried to remove a suction-cup mount from my windshield. Turns out the windshield had gotten so hot, it actually melted the rubber, leaving a round ring of caked on material as I removed the mount. Now I'm stuck with this unsightly ring on the windshield. So far I've tried using rubbing alcohol, nail polish remover, and windex -- all to no avail.

Anyone know how to clean this?

GooGone works wonders for things like this. Pick it up at your local store!

Also, I wonder if taking a blow dryer on its hottest setting would melt this stuff enough to scrape it off?

Try scraping it off with a razor.

I would use a single edge razor blade. Wetting the surface would also help.

A razor or other sharp scraper will take it off cleanly.

I will mention, however, that circle looks like it was left by a Garmin and this is a _very_ common problem with the plastic they use. A lot of folks report good luck getting them replaced even out of warranty.

I too had this problem...Like a few that had already posted, using a single razor blade works like a champ.

Used a paper towel and water. Wet the area to let it moisture and then rub it.

Thanks for all the great tips - A little GooGone and a razor blade did the trick and removed the ring o' rubber.

Use baking powder you keep in fridge with moist sturdy paper-towel. Use of shampoo or liquid soap to moisten works to keep powder together better.

I have seen something worse with a bullet-proof windsheild. The windsheild suction cup actually dimpled the windsheild when exposed to 110 degree weather.

if you have insurance you can smash the windshield and get a new one. =) i think you are entitled to one per year.

I had the same thing happen with my Nuvi 660. Garmin sent me a replacement free. I cleaned it with Formula 409. It came of fairly easy.

yes use a razor blade to remove the rubber from the window by mixing parsons sudsy ammonia and pink lotion.

Hey does anyone know when the updated maps will be out for the Nuvi 660 or the new gps untit. Thanks Lew
