Comments for Magellan Posts Firmware v.1.22 for Maestro 4040

After a small hiccup on the inital release, Magellan has made firmware v.1.22 available for download via their website. I just downloaded and installed the 35MB update and everything went smoothly (although there's no MacOS or Vista support, so I had to do the update on a Windows XP machine).

Every damn thing you have to say about Magellan is negative. If you truly want to be successful with your reviews you should just report the facts. Let people make an informed decision. Not everybody feels the same way you do. Stop doing reviews and work for Magellan, Garmin, or Tom Tom. I'm sure with your insight you'll be making a six figure income and putting GPS companies out of business.

GPSLaRaza,

I'm not sure what review you've been reading but it sure isn't Fletch's. I think he was completely fair and objective and DID report the facts. Where do you think he embellished or was less than honest?

Do you want him to lie and pretend that there were positives that don't exist? What purpose would it serve anybody, especially the consumer if Fletch didn't report the truth? Would that help you as a consumer? If you want to spend your bucks on a product that is not ready for prime time to support Magellan, then go for it. By the way, do you happen to own a 4040? IF you do, what in the world did Flecth say that isn't valid or that you consider out of line?

Actually, I thought Fletch could have been harsher, because I owned two Maestro 4040's and my impressions of the device were even worse. Take a peak at my personal review in the forum (take a few deep breaths before you do). Read about how long it takes to get results when you search a POI by name, even ones close by; about the system hanging and there's no way to cancel out as it hangs. Read about a route exclusion feature that doesn't work. Those are my experiences and I have no reason or motive to disparage any GPS manufacturer, much like Fletch.

Fletch is providing a much needed service to those who are interested in navigation devices and considering purchasing one. There isn't a site on the internet that provides the detailed, honest and fair reviews as this site.

I'll post my thoughts about the 4040 in the review section. Here I just want to state that Fletch provides enough info that you can make your own conclusions. I knew before I went to look at the 4040 in person that some of his "cons" were of little or no concern to me. All reviews are based on personal experience and feelings. Fletch does much better than most at providing enough information, including pictures, to make an informed decision about whether a product needs some hands on evaluation.

Just wanted to say that I have also found the reviews objective and extremely helpful. The level of depth in each of the reviews is fantastic.

I just received my 4040 today and upgrade it to 1.22 firmware right away. Its forwing fantastic for me. It did display the ETA on the map, but you have to tap the bottom right corner screen to show it,otherwise it showed the distance ! The speaker is loud and impressive ,very useful when using the blue tooth phones.
