TomTom has confirmed that a small number of GO 910 units produced between September and November 2006 are infected with a virus (yikes!). Units that shipped with software version 6.51 are at risk. Not surprisingly, TomTom is downplaying the issue, calling the virus “low risk”, and “easily removable” by using any of the popular antivirus scanning software packages. TomTom is not saying which virus managed to find its way onto the Dutch vendor’s top-of-the-line GPS, but says if you see host.exe or copy.exe files present on the device, you’ve got the virus.

Aside from that "Oops" TomTom made, and not publically accepting fault until NOW, that is why I don't like TomTom devices. Even if they started using NavTeq mapping, I still wouldn't bother with their devices, personal opinion of course, but to buy expensive hardware only to have a virus in it, is something that causes a company to get a bad name. Bad mounts, bad mapping, bad customer support, bad firmware updates, bad EVERYTHING! I'm sure other companies have their problems too, but TomTom has displayed what it MEANS to be LOW.
Good going TomTom, maybe you can just be 3rd class instead of 1st class, because that's where I see you. Perhaps you should start including antivirus software with your devices from now on, and label all your products with a warning that "We are not responsible for any manufactuer defects".
Wow Brian
I think every GPS manufactures have some issues that are not known to the consumers, although some are more known than others.
Don't take it so hard about TomTom virus, don't sound like you are a TomTom fan but there are tons of people that are and enjoy what the TomTom unit can do.
By the way, TomTom Rider uses NT software in NA, and TomTom ONE in EU uses the NT mapping software.
I know there are issues with Garmin Nuvi's and Magellan Roadmates, not to mention the Navman, Mio, Cobra, Sony, Alpine, Pioneer systems. We can talk about mapping issues with both NavTeq mapping software and TeleAtlas.
So can you tell me which unit is perfect with no issues that are currently available?

GPS4ME, you're right, I am not a fan of TomTom anymore. When the TomTom GO 910 and Garmin StreetPilot c550 were released, it was a hard discision for me to make and I was leaning towards getting the TomTom GO 910. BUT, as weeks went by, doing my research, talking to store associates, testing, I went in favor with Garmin. Why Garmin? Well, doing my research, I found a lot more positive reviews with Garmin products than the TomTom products. Garmin makes navigating easier with a better UI in my opinion and delivers on what they say the product will do and be capable of doing. The mounting hardware is strong, the device doesn't glitch up upon testing and is pretty solid, firmware updates are also more trustworthy than what TomTom has pulled on people, like retracting their firmware updates because of problems, and retracted when people's GPS units were messed up first. Garmin has a TMC Traffic application already running, TomTom makes you use your bluetooth enabled phone while they still promise a device for the unit. TomTom boasts about being thebest of the best of the best, like at CES 2007, when all they showed were devices released some time ago with a new GO X10 mount with FM Transmitter and cases. They also clain, OFTEN, that Garmin steals their GPS designs and patents. As far as I'm concerned, TomTom wants Garmin's money from lawsuits to fund more GPS units that are a carbon copy of Garmin technology. Garmin made the flat Nuvi, then the US TomTom One came out, who stole whos idea? And that isn't only TomTom. Garmin has their head in the game, and devices I see, copy off of Garmin design and technology.
Here's hoping that Garmin shines like the sun over others.
My tomtom 910 came prepacked with 2 virus's, When I called support line early this year they told me to ignore as my virus checker was being too finicky. I obliged and my PC has never been the same. I finally bought a mac before I found out it was my tomtom. I found and deleted the virus"s on tomtom and it promptly stopped working. Tomtom has replaced my tomtom with rebuilt unit with old maps. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. I still think the hardware is a good design but customer service needs a complete redesign!
