What's the deal with the newly announced Nuvi's only mentioning WAAS and nothing about SiRF? Is Garmin trying to keep cost down by using an inferior receiver?
According to Garmin, they're still using SiRF on all their products, so no worries just yet. Still, I also find it odd they're removing the mention of SiRF from their marketing pages, and I suppose they're leaving the door open using someone else's chipset. Or they're trying to leverage better pricing out of SiRF...

Can you be more specific about the "New Traffic Interface"? Has the user guide been updated? I just got my Nuvi 660 last week so I am kind of a Nuvi newby. Thanks.
Tony, you're lucky... you get to try it out on yours and see for yourself! Have you tried panning and zooming to pick your destination yet? I'm curious if that's an effective way choosing in place of having to input city name/street name, etc. I know on a computer, if the size is too small, trying to find a location by panning and zooming can sometimes be frustrating.
nm: I tried to find an intersection in the W. San Fernando Valley using the method you described and the map was not detailed enough to do it. The other way, to enter the two streets manually was fine. As regards the update, it has no effect on the user interface that I can detect. If I discover one, I will report it via a post here. Regards.
It took a few days for me to get used to version 3.20. At first I did not like it, and regreted upgrading from version 2.70. Now I view the update as a positive. With regard to traffic data, it logically conveys traffic info on my route, along with estimated delay times.

I recently purchased and returned a Nuvi 660 after having been VERY disappointed not only with it's navigation choices (THE most important part of any GPS), but also with its inability to locate MANY mainstream truckstops/gas stations along a major interstate I tried it on.
Specifically, I discovered that the Nuvi lacks an incredibly important navigation choice that my old Magellan Roadmate 700 (recently stolen) had ... choosing "most use of freeways" versus "least use of freeways." On a trip to Minneapolis from the Chicago area, the Nuvi repeatedly tried to redirect me back to one of two interstate routes even when I was already on the other one (a much faster choice at that point). On the way back from Minneapolis, it tried for ALMOST 40 MILES to redirect me off the fast interstate and back toward the other interstate (using rural routes), even though that would have added at least an hour (and probably more) to my trip.
In short, there was a LOT to like about the Nuvi 660, but since it repeatedly failed to outperform a much older Magellan unit (as did several other GPS's that lacked the ability to choose "most use of freeways") I've concluded that the only option I have is to go back to the Magellan brand.
I read your glowing review of the Nuvi 660 and had high hopes it would live up to the review, but let's face it ... it doesn't matter how nice the features of a GPS are if the navigation doesn't cut it...
I was hoping this software upgrade you mentioned would have addressed (and added) the option for "most use of freeways." If it had I might have been willing to overlook the glaring omission of so many important POI's...

Steve
Most importantly the one feature missing on the Garmin units is multi-destination routing. For a Realtor how makes up to 20 stops this is a must have
I got an e-mail from Garmin concerning the Nuvi 680 release and new V9 map update, this is what they said:
"Thank you for contacting Garmin.
That will depend on when they are shipped. If they are shipped after the
release of the new map version they should have the updated software. If
you purchase any unit after the release date and it does not have the update
we will give it to you. The realease date will be april-may and the
software update will be available july-august.
Thank You,
