Remember all that belly-aching I did about the problematic TomTom GO 910 windshield mount a few months ago? Well, looks like TomTom has heard the customer feedback, improved the mount, and is offering all GO 910 and 510 owners the new improved mount for free! (that's right, you don't even have to send in your existing mount). Takes a few weeks to get the new mount, one per registered device.
What's improved on the new mount?
- The new mounts are designed to have a tighter ball and socket joint, which prevents the mount from drooping downward while driving (yup, my original 910 mount did this).
- The power connection is now more secure, addressing customer complaints that the unit would occasionally power off/on while navigating.
- New mount has a slight lip that locks the unit in place in a more intuitive way, making it easier to mount/unmount the unit from the dock.
TomTom says that even though a relatively small number of customers actually experienced issues with the original mount (I know I did), they're offering the new mount to all GO 910/510 customers for free because they want customers to know that TomTom takes any customer issues seriously, and wants to do the right thing as soon as they become aware of an issue.
An interesting side-note: according to TomTom, turns out that the failure rate of the original mount during the winter was relatively small, but the increased heat of summer caused the original mounts to fail in greater numbers, prompting TomTom to take corrective action.
TomTom gets points for stepping up and taking corrective action in relatively short order. Nice to see a company standing behind its products.
So head on over to TomTom's site (https://www.tomtom.com/newdock/) and pickup your FREE new mount!

Ordered since last Friday !
Hope all of these problems will become things of the past :).
Not only I have problem with my docking unit, but I find that maps relating to my own home address are not that. The area that I live in was developed more than three years back, and I would therefore expect all updated maps on the 910 Go unit which is fairly new introduction to the range of TomTom products. I was told by the dealer that all the maps were updated and that I would find my location map. Most other makes have the map of the area I live in, why not TOMTOM 910? Please help. What do I do, having spent such a lot of money on an unit that does not have all the maps. Where do I download updated maps?
Indu,
The issue is probably not with your TomTom, and more with the maps it uses. TomTom uses Tele Atlas maps. Most online map services use NAVTEQ (google maps, yahoo maps, mapquest, msn, etc.). Garmin and Magellan also use NAVTEQ.
Go online and see if your address is on the map on Google Maps or Yahoo maps. If it is, then I'd say time to eBay the TT 910 and pickup a Garmin c550 or Magellan 6000T.
Hope that helps.

TomTom may care about its customers with GPS car products, but I'm not feeling the love based on my issues with the Rider. I've gone through 2 mounts over inferior material and vibration on my motorcycle. TomTom answer: We're sending you another (third one now) mount. Oh, did I mention that it's going to break in the same place in less than 75 miles due to vibration? Glad there listening to someone because I just ordered the new Garmon zumo 550.
I have the same problem
to find out,street adress
in Alabama, the area develope in last two years
and it is not on tomtomg910
map?
I have a brand new GO910 and also have the same problem with my USA map. I can not find my home street and I live here for almost 7 years. What can I do to update the USA maps? I have been in Europe and the maps are very good. Why the USA maps are so obsolete? Can I download an updated version somewhere? Please help.
Need better USA Maps!! Tom Tom 700 is great for the most part. The updated software was a nice plus. Just need to update the Maps. I was told around "December there should be an Map update".. We will see..
Bill - Unfortunately there is no map update for the 910 yet. Rumor is TomTom will have a major update next month, when Tele Atlas completes their integration with GDT (a mapping company they bought). Look for it (relatively) soon.

When will you have a version for Treo 700P?
I own a Palm Pilot, with a PalmOne Bluetooth GPS. I have been unable to get the GPS to funtion. Can You Please Help!
I need the phone number I can call to speak to anybody in reference to technicle assistance with my Palm Pilot/PamOne GPS-Bluetooth. Or somewhere I can go with it for assistance.
My name is Ron Philpot; My home phone#(407)381-3829, cellular phone#(407)405-6350; and I can be reached by email @: rphilpot1@cfl.rr.com /or ronald.philpot@ocfl.net /or ronald.philpot@navy.mil
I have a 300 tom tom it gets me lost in more places than I care for, everywhere there's roadwork my Tom Tom looses it's way starts going bezerk. I have lost confidence in it. Any eady solution?
Riet - depends a little on where you live. If you're in the USA, i'd say get a Garmin c550. If you're in Europe, I'd say get a newer TomTom, like the TomTom ONE. Maps have been updated since your 300 and both will have much better signal reception thanks to SiRF's chipset.
cheers,

I purchased a TomTom 910 in the spring of 2006. Ihave had problems with the mount since day 1. They are suppose to be sending me a new mount. I have also had problems with keying in an address and my 910 not being able to locate it and asking for a cross street. Is always in a city Im not living in so I dont know the cross streets. They need better maps.
I just bought tom tom 910,I look at it as it will get you close, you can't ask for much more than that!! I use mine every day some streets are not there but it allways knows the way home!!!!! TOM TOM has a great product!!!! Thanks for every thing
Purchased the 510 three weeks ago and have already had problems with the window mount, glad to hear that I can get a new one with no additional cost. Here's the BIG question, how do I get updated maps???
We're traveling in a motorcoach and many addresses are simply not there. We need better maps and if I really had a wish list altitude listings and ability to alter the routes as planned by the unit.
Sandy -
The mapping data is the BIG frustration with TomTom, and the reason it's not my current recommended GPS. The problem with the 510 (and 910, for that matter) is that TomTom uses maps provided by a company called Tele Atlas.
Your 510 already has the most current TomTom (Tele Atlas) maps on it, so updating won't solve the issue.
If it's better maps you want, then I'm afraid you're going to have to buy a GPS that uses maps provided by NAVTEQ. Garmin and Magellan use NAVTEQ. FYI - NAVTEQ is also used by Yahoo Maps, Google Maps, MSN Maps, Mapquest, and most other online mapping websites.
If you're on a budget, I'd say get the Magellan RoadMate 2200T. If you've got a little more cash on hand, get teh Garmin Nuvi 360. The release of the Nuvi 660 has driven the price of the 360 down, and the 360 has NAVTEQ mapping data and a really good routing engine. You won't be sorry with the Garmin. Also the Garmin StreetPilot c550 is an excellent unit, and will likely drop around $150 in price before Christmas.
Hope that helps.

I purchased the tomtom 910 and I am loving it. I had a problem with the winshield mount also but tomtom replaced it with a new one, works great. I am too waiting on the updated maps.
I have the TomTom 910 for at least 1-1/2 month. Like most of you - also had a problem with the mount but this time it just went dead on me. So, I'm calling for warranty repair. I'll see how it goes. Other things I noticed about the 910 is that sometimes the warning to make a turn is a little too late. I agree with most of the comments and I think TomTom needs an updated map.
I'm motorcoach operator and travel up and down the east coast. There are curtain bridges that buses and trucks
can not go over and underpasses that are to low
to go under. Is thier a tom tom that can work with buses
and trucks in this matter
Nathan - The only unit I know of that will let you specify vehicle type is the Garmin c550, Nuvi 360, and Nuvi 660. My advice is to get a Garmin. The NAVTEQ maps are much better in the US than the Tele Atlas maps TomTom uses.
Cheers

I was considering the Tom-Tom 910 as I need maps of both the US and Europe. Do you have a suggestion other than the Tom-Tom?
I am sooo glad to see others are having problems with the windshield mount. Me too.
Further....regarding maps.....I am furious that I spent over $800 for this piece of ....mechanical mess. I got lost in the Los Angeles National Forest one night.
The TomTom told me to "turn right in 60 ft." Had I done that, I'd be in the bottom of a crevasse.
Apparently the old road was removed several years ago, and the Tom Tom was NEVER UPDATED.
Thanks alot TomTom...
the company said that they will send me a windshield mount replacement for my tt910. But where is it. I waited long enough. The probably sendt it to the wrong address. They should dump the map they use; Tele Atlas and get NavTeq.There are thousands of us that bought the tt910 & the company left us stranded. still waiting for my windshield mount. How do you expect us to trust in your product again in the future. grrrr.
randy
I purchased Tom Tom 300, my winshield mount has broken. I have had problems with this since I purchased the 300. I have gone to your site to purchase a new one, I can't believe it cost that much. I don't know if anyone else has had this problem of breakage if you have send E-Mail to Tom Tom, maybe this company will stand behind there product---it sure cost me alot of money to purchase.

My 910 suddenly would not turn on. I called the TomTom service line number, 866-486-6866 (hours M-F, 9am-7:00 EST)and got through to an agent in about a minute. She had me hold down a small post just inside the unit's backside connector that is protected by a small U-shaped opening for 10 sec. That did the trick. She suggested that I was charging the 910 for too long a time. One needs just 2 hours when its run down. Great Service!
Arthur,
While I'm pleased TomTom support was able to resolve your issue in a timely manner, I'm not sure I'd describe the explanation that your TomTom 910 had been "charging for too long a time" as "Great Service".
Can I load third-party marine chart software onto a 910? Thanks.
Does anyone know if dumb dumb will ever update it's traffic service to include the USA? And what about the bluetooth connection with your cell phone? Most of the phones we use here in the US are not listed! I should have purchased an American product! I'm the dumb dumb 910 (910 kicks in the a_s!) I guess!
I have a 510 Its a shame that there is no way to use Navteq maps on the Tom Tom the device itself is great.
I have been using the 910 for 30 days now, It is the worst; +2 years out of date maps in Las Vegas, the mount sucks, will not do data with my cell phone, well that is more a problem with Verizon, but still sucks.
The unit has me make u-turns were none is needed and comming off the freeway to my house it tells me to make a left when my house is to the right.
I've had the 510 for a week. so far, the mount has held up, but every morning, the clock is off by from 2-12 hours! After "SYNC" it's still way off, so I have to re-enter the time every day. I also agree that they should do something about the phone compatibility if they want to continue to sell in the US. I have an LG VX-8300, and I can make calls, but it won't transfer my phonebook. In fact, you can't manually set up a phonebook, just a POI! The unit gets me where I want to go, but the software needs work.
I just bought a GO910 and love it but the Canada maps are very old. My own home address is not even in the data base. 1000+ street name where changed in 2001-2002 in the capital area and TOMTOM as not updated... It time to update Canada and US maps TomTom... even google earth and Microsoft are up to date... This is important dont YOU think? Its a GPS.... How can it find places when they are not there?
Claude - TomTom has a firmware update that fixes the time issue. Install TomTom HOME and run the updater. It'll fix this.

Tom Tom promised TMC-RDS at the end of 3rd qtr. Not only is it not here but it has been removed from the accessory 910 page. The Bluetooth option is nice when it works, most people can hear me. I agree the user interface is nice except for the mobile phone options e.g. there is no * or # on the keypad. I dont mind being a beta user if I either get paid or dont have to pay for the unit. The auto power down feature is gone so you have to remember to shut down the 910 or else it will be completly dead and you have to a hard reset. I dont understand how this device got such great reviews. There is great potential but maybe next version. I am asking for my money back!
Good day all,
Over all my 910 unit is working fine now that I have the new mount. I would just like the auto power down feture as I'm always forgetting to shut it down, any word as to when it will revert back to the way it was?????
PS. The reason I chose the TOM TOM over my prior Garmin was for the Traffic feature which does not work in the US. What gives?
2006/10/27
I bought 910 in holland what work fine,in Canada Usa work fine, I went to Las Vegas and back ,my 910 was always correct.
I’m new to the GPS world and recently bought the TomTom 510. I’m still getting use to it but was wondering if it had a feature that let me know when I’m off course. I have taken different routes and made wrong turns to see what would happen. Unless a u-turn is required it just recalculated my route and never mentioned my mistake. Can it be programmed to inform me that I have gone off route?
Randy - I believe there is an option in the TomTom to turn off automatic re-routing. Enable all options, then take a look around the menus. I'll take a look too and let you know if I find where it is.

Ok, I got the new mount for the 910 and my unit still drops. TomTom, s...s!
I have had only one little problem with my new Tom-Tom 910. When it says "turn" be careful it could be a one-way street and you may be headed the wrong way.
WOW, After reading all the threads posted about the TT910. I cant believe I didnt go with the GARMIN.
I tell you wouldnt it be great to put it into a sock and smash it over the heads of the clowns who designed it.
I dont have a money tree growing in my back yard. What pisses me off the most is to have spent so much for such an inferior product.
I just purchased a 510..the mount will not stay on the windscreen. How can I get it exchanged.
Thanks
Does the 910 support a sprint treo 650 bluetooth cell phone?
TomTom dose it right one more time, I have the 910 and TomTom is sending me the new maps for free, I am just paying for shipping......way to go guys. Oh, Ya, my mount is now working now that it is winter hehe
If you knew in early October that there was a problem with the docking bracket, what in the hell were they doing on the retailers shelves. I have spent the last two hours on hold by phone or on the internet trying to get registered for a replacement. The web site www.tomtom.com/newmount does,t even work. Now when I put in the serial number it is saying it is invalid.
Back in November,29, 2006 I ordered a replacement of a window mount for My tomtom 510. Have not recieve it and no one from tomtom support will not snswer the phone or E-mail me about it. Can you help?

I own a Go510, it was broken after two months. I had to send the unit back to TomTom repair and the quick turn time for them was three months to get it back. Within three days of getting it back, it was broken again, and this time the remeady was to replace the face plate. TomTom actually wanted to charge for the face plate.
After getting the device repaired I found the maps out of date with directions to turn into barriers or non-existant roads. Getting from point A to point B is never the quickest or shortest route. After waiting for TomTom to change map vendors and shelling out more $$ for a new North America map nothing has changed. But the map can now be viewed in a hybrid mode. Very good when TomTom has your driving in circles! Now the screen is pretty while looking for that non-existant point of interest.
Today the instruction was turn right, next make a U turn, and the next instruction was make a right turn. Yeah I actually wanted to know what was down that rural road. It would actually be comical if the device then said: "Fooled you again, first I got your money, then soaked you for the maps, and then have you driving in circles, you idiot."
If you think that gas is still cheap and you want to waste it getting from point A to B then TomTom should be for you. This device will deinately take you around in circles and off the beaten path.
So if you are thinking of buying a GPS navigation and want to get lost then TomTom is for you. For the rest of you that feel that getting there with out all the extra effort and stress, then look at something else.
If you want to get traffic or weather reports from a navigation device then TomTom doesn't offer that in North America.
TomTom sucks. I am actually embaraced I took it out of the case, again. What was I thinking?
Looking at the other posts, i dont know if this portal is in regular use but i shall try.
My tomtom 510 mount holder continues to droop and often i end up detaching it. I thought this was just my screen or my mount but it looks like a design issue.
Unfortunately tomtom appear to have withdrawn the offer to replace the mount. Any ideas? Thanks
