Comments for Garmin Releases StreetPilot c550 Firmware Version 3.30

Garmin WebUpdater

Today Garmin posted version 3.30 firmware for the StreetPilot c550 to their website. Changes made from version 3.10 to 3.30:

* Added pre-recorded voice guidance support for Greek, Croatian, and Slovenian
* Added verification prompt for entering PIN on Garmin lock feature
* Fixed button row on main menu to operate on one touch
* Fixed error of missing cities in address search
* Resolved a low battery power down lock up situation

I've installed the updated firmware and so far all seems well. Installed the update? Let us know how it went and post a comment.

I installed the update and quite frankly only see one enhancement - the bottom row is much easier to touch.

I didn't see any changes regarding the Garmin Lock feature and this is something I feel should be fixed.

The Garmin Lock feature - although offering good piece of mind - could use more refinement. All too often fingers can press incorrect keys on the key pad and when the incorrect PIN is entered the unit locks up. Perhaps Garmin should allow at least two attempts at getting the PIN entered before locking up and having to drive all the way to the set security location.

I also find that the Bluetooth feature drops my blackberry despite both radios being on.

When will Garmin also feature a QWERTY key pad? The current style is much to cumbersome this day in age.

A few additional issues is the need to have to scroll down the list of either names and telephone numbers or MP3 lists when the back button is pressed. It would be a lot easier if pressing the back button would bring you to the last visible item that was displayed rather than having to scroll down for what can be ages.

Lastly, I'm beginning to find the glare-proof screen a little hazey. Not good when you drop big bucks for a GPS. Looks great at night but daytime isn't good at all.

Great site gpsmagazine.com keep the news coming in.

I just read Mika's comment regarding re-routing problems.

I, too, have this problem with my c550. I can be driving off course for quite some time before the unit figures out I'm not following the plotted course.

Not good when you're driving faster than the computer can "think".

I also don't know what the verification prompt for Lock PIN is either. Don't see it's intended fix.

I have just purchased the c550
and I can't find information about the version it is running. Can you tell me how to determine that?
I also downloaded Webupdater and after connecting the unit to the computer it tells me that it cannot connect to the internet. Any ideas? I have DSL and I have XP.

Unit worked this am and most of afternoon.

Now locked up and will not turn on? Does this have something to do with the last point the upgrade is supposed to fix or do I have a dog?

DougM - Try resetting the unit: The reset button on these units is located underneath the removable face plate. You can remove the face plate by pulling up on the part of the faceplate with the Garmin name on it. The reset button is easily visible underneath.
Then make sure you connect the c550 to the cigarette lighter adapter so it can finish updating the firmware on the traffic antenna in the 12v adapter. Hope that helps,

Fletch thanks for the response and will give that a try.
Tried a few other things last evening but only could think that cigarette adapter had blown a fuse or something in that I only saw one of the 2 lighted bars on when plugged in. But will try this. And could not find a reset button, TY
