Hacking the TomTom GO 910

Some intrepid folks over at PocketGPSworld.com have taken it upon themselves to do what none of us has the stones to do: dismantle the GO 910 and hack away at the operating system.

Like all TomTom navigation devices, the GO 910 is based on Linux, which allowed them to have all sorts of Linux fun and customize the GO 910 in interesting ways (including customizing menus and watching movies on the 910). They spend a fair amount of time detailing the design differences between the various TT devices and the GO 910, and talking about how crappy the suction mount is (now common knowledge to all GO 910 owners).

For all the complaining going on about the Go 910, I think PocketGPS' "surgery" just shows how powerful TomToms are. I bought my 510 when they first came out and love it. Still an unparalleled UI.

I purchased my TomTom GO910 while I was in Austria last July. I like the little devise and only two weeks ago used in during my travels on the Big Island of Hawaii.
My only complaint was the very much outdated maps. However I just received the udate disk and installed it today. My residence is finally listed. A great improvement.
Installation was a disaster. To start with the autorun feature does not work. I spend more then three hours loading the new map data as it consists of 54 maps, each of them has to be loaded individual since the product code has to be typed in 54 times.
One would think that a company which creates such a fine product would have staff more astute to create product updates.
Well I am happy to have the up to date maps so I guess I should not complain about having to spend all afternoon to upgrade my Go 910.

does anybody know if there is anyway to change the navigator color from blue to a different color? i have changed the map scheme to red colors, but any way to change the navigator colors, as i have a 79 firebird, interior is red, and all my gauges are red and the blue REALLY offsets the look of the car! thanks :)
