I did buy Garmin Streetpilot C550 couple days ago. Thanks to your review. First updated firmware to 3.10. Havent had any problems with that update yet. Works great.
I wonder if there is somewere more info of additional updates that you can load with Garmin Webupdater, Bluetooth update, Trafic reciver update and GPS update. It would be nice know more about those updates.
I had little problems with bluetooth update first, it didnt fully load I guess and C550 did crash when I did power up.. Text window said Bluetooth update 0%. I did luckyly find correct files that I did remove from garmin hd and it start work ok. Later update did work just fine.
Thanks :)

Is there any more information of Streetpilot iPod update.. That would be great. :)
Mike - as far as I know, Garmin currently has no plans to support the iPod. Although I agree -- that would be a very nice feature and it seems like they could easily add it via a firmware update and an optional cable.

Mike - regarding the Bluetooth and traffic updater: Garmin says the Bluetooth update makes the Bluetooth more stable, and addresses some issues of calls being dropped or the connection resetting between the c550 and your phone.
As for the traffic update, it's worth mentioning that the way the update works, it is first downloaded to your c550. Then when you connect the integrated traffic receiver / 12v power cable to the c550, it updates the firmware in that cable. Can be confusing first time you connect it, and it says it's updating again.

Fletch - Thanks for information. Its very intresting that cable really has firmware etc. It looks just cable and antenna. Today those things are just so small.
Do you know about GPS update.. Webupdater did download/update gps update too as additional updates after unit firmware was updated to 3.10.
Does garmin allow free updates to its map & POI database?
Hem - Garmin posts free firmware updates for their GPS units, but NOT free map updates. Those typically cost around $75 (for Garmin map updates).

My C550 did come with City Navigator Europe NT+ v8. Do you know when it was released and how ofter they usually update maps? I heard that often next map update is free.. Juat wonder if v9 is free for me.. :)
NT v8 is the latest and most current Garmin map release. not sure when the next version will be released, but you'll prolly have to pay for the upgrade.

Fletch: Do you know when City Navigator Europe v6 and v7 were released? I just wonder how ofter they update maps. Finland is only north Europe country that is not 100%.
Thanks :)
Mika - to the best of my knowledge, Garmin releases new City Navigator versions around every 2 years. BTW - the latest City Navigator Europe is version 8.0

Fletch: Yes. And it was already preloaded to European version of C550. Is somewere history/version information of older city Navigator versions.. It would be intresting see changes and release dates.

I bought a new StreetPilot C550 last week. It was delivered yesterday by UPS. I installed it in car but there is no voice. It plays MP3 player and gives music but when I use GPS, it does not generate direction with voice commands. Any suggestion?
