TomTom has released firmware version 6.11 for all GO 510 and 910 owners. However, the update is only available via the TomTom HOME desktop application. When you cradle a 510 or 910 and launch the HOME application, the update will automatically be downloaded and installed. My guess is TomTom doesn't want people putting 6.11 on older TomTom units and is therefore making it an automated process via HOME. However, this release method means there are no release notes for the new firmware, so it's anyone's guess what is fixed or added. Here is what we've been able to determine so far about version 6.11
- Text-to-speech pronunciation has been improved.
- When powered by the power cord in the car, unit will no longer switch itself off when the power is disconnected. Although this was a popular feature, the crummy 910 mount would sometimes loose the connection to the 910, causing the unit to switch itself in and off and the mount made/lost contact. TomTom has therefore decided to
fix the crappy mountdisable this convenient feature. - Fixes an issue when using the remote control on the TomTom traffic service screens (although that wouldn’t be anyone in the USA, since this service isn’t available here yet). The remote control can now be used to access the TRAFFIC menu.
- The Microphone Preferences icon has been replaced with Bluetooth Preferences icon.
- Fixes an issue where the GO 910 would suddenly lose the correct time (actually this was fixed in version 6.02, but was not made publically available until release version 6.04).
- Several Bluetooth stability improvements
- iPod(r) interaction has been improved.
- USB device recognition has been improved.
I've installed 6.11 on my 910 and everything appears to be running smoothly. Nothing is different enough that I feel it warrants changing the TomTom GO 910 Review, so for now I'm leaving the review as-is.
Have you upgraded to 6.11? Let us know about your experience by posting in the comments section.

Ok, so the mount is a bit crappy...I've found that ensuring the 910 is touching a portion of the dash resolves the sagging and improves stability of the screen while driving (it doesn't bounce any more). But even the mount issue I think is not a sufficient reason to disable such a vital feature as auto shut off.
I would be curious to know how many people ran the update having no idea it disabled that, then went somewhere at night, left their car in a parking lot (not thinking to ensure the TomTom shuts off because they are use to it shutting off by itself) then returning to their car to find a smashed window and a missing TomTom.
I'm really HIGHLY disappointed in TomTom for this. I must have had some version between 6.02 and 6.11 because when I found I could download 6.02 and get that feature back, a few other features are less robust than they were originally like bluetooth and what not...
Not a real good move on their part if you ask me.

TomTom 910 problems!
If I can get the unit to turn on, it will turn back off. This behavior is the same if using the car mount with cigarette lighter power or with usb docking station with wall outlet power.
Reset switch by itself does not work!
pressing power switch and rest switch at same time does not help.
It looks like it is charging, green light is on.
BUT, again, if it turns on..after several attempts, it will shut off in less than 20 seconds..never shutting down in same place..some times in intro screen, sometimes alittle bit further.
After I keep trying though..in last hour or so..shutdown happens only 5 seconds or less after power up.
I have not gotten to get the unit to turn on at all if it is not powered by cigarette lighter plug or wall plug power.
BTW/ I am disappointed in TomTom reliabity! Before this terrible problem..I have frequent episodes where the unit would freeze! Only way to get it out of its funk was to use the reset button. Which by the way is of such a small size and in such an awkward place!! A regular paper clip will not work! Its too big. 0.7mm pencil lead from my mechnical pencil works the best. A needle will puncture the rubber boot of this miniscule reset button.
AND to top it off.,,,this TomTom is having problems for me on the 3rd day of a 16 day Scotland vcacation. NOw I have to use MAPS!!
Severely disappointing!
On top of that..I just bought $210 of updatded maps for it!!! US/Canada and Europe and 1 yr of speed cameras..before my trip..
I also updated the program software.
Maybe that was a mistake!!
DAMN!
BTW/ I wonder if TomTom policy is to deliver new TomToms with maps that are delibrately out of date!!??? This means that the company will increase the chances of extra revenue! I think they are!
I paid $600 for my unit..just plucked down $210 on maps..that's $810.
How many nice plastic maps can I buy for that?
BTW/ Almost none of the major tourist attractions are NOT in point of interests lists. Most of on board point of interests are commerical, most of which are not useful.
Very few hotels/motels are available in the TomTom910 as well.
It appears to be difficult for TomTom to add these. and user additions to favorites ..before the trip/vacation is difficult.
I just purchased the tomtom 510 and it shuts off by itself and I have to go through the whole setup process each time. This sucks! I called tech support and followed their instructions (which they hurried after a 40min wait) and it does the same thing.
