Holiday GPS Sales Expected To Be Up 8 Percent This Year. Here's Why That's Actually Bad News For Retailers

According to a repot put out by the NPD Group, PND sales are expected to gain about 8 percent this holiday buying season compared to last year. That's the good news. The bad news is that average selling prices are down 25% this year, meaning revenue will actually fall 16 percent.

Retailers are expected to offer special promotions for Black Friday this season, and will offer brand-name GPS devices for as little as $69, and off-brand (some company you've never heard of, and shouldn't expect much support from) for $49.

That kind of aggressive pricing will likely make inexpensive GPS devices an attractive option for buyers who can't afford a smartphone, or those looking for sub-$50 stocking stuffers.
