Current Location
Figure 57: Current Location

Tapping the vehicle icon on the map displays the Current Location screen, shown above. This screen shows the road you are currently driving on, city and zip code, your distance to the nearest road in front of your current location and behind you, and your current Lat/Long coordinates.

You can save your current position to the address book by tapping Save from this screen.

Add Destination
Figure 58: Add Destination

If you search for a POI or enter a street address while already en route to a destination, the RoadMate what you want to do with the new destination:

  • Replace Destination - Deletes the original destination and calculates a new route to the new destination
  • Go There Now - The selected location is inserted in the route as the next destination. In other words, inserts the new destination as a stop along the way to your original destination
  • Add To Trip - Lets you build a multi-destination trip and manually order the stops, or automatically sort them by distance

Multiple Destination List

This screen lets you add multiple destinations to the trip, manually order each stop, or choose Optimize to have the RoadMate automatically sort the destinations by distance.

Cancelling the Route
Figure 60: Canceling the Route

Canceling the route is easy: Tap Menu from the Map screen, then tap the cancel route icon, as shown above.

Confirm Route Cancellation

The RoadMate asks if you want to cancel the current route.

Local Info
Figure 62: Local Info

The Local Info feature, available via the Trip Options screen, displays useful information about your current location or destination location:

  • Events - Shows AAA information for events near your current location or destination
  • Attractions - Displays tourist attractions
  • Destinations - Shows noteworthy nearby destinations and towns
  • Restaurants - Search for nearby restaurants
  • Gas - Finds nearby gas stations

The wording can get a little confusing on this page (what's the difference between an "Attraction" and a "Destination"?), but it's still a very useful feature to ease exploring new places.

Night Mode
Figure 63: Night Mode

When driving at night, the RoadMate 1470 automatically switches to a darker map color scheme, making the map easier on the eyes at night in a dark car.

Annoyingly, only the map screen changes at night, so the rest of the menus are blindingly bright in the daytime-friendly bright blue.

Home Address
Figure 64: Home Address

The Home icon on the destination menu is a quick, one-touch way to begin navigating back to the address you'll use most often: home.

Entering the Home Address
Figure 65: Entering the Home Address

The first time you tap the Home icon, the RoadMate asks if you want to specify the Home address. You can enter the address just as you would any other destination, or have the GPS store your current location as the Home address.

Turn Warning Tone
Figure 66: Turn Warning Tone

One of the most beloved features among Magellan GPS users is the setting to play an alert tone when you need to make a turn. The RoadMate 1470 lets you choose a Chime, Bell, or Beep, or no sound.

When set to one of the sounds, the RoadMate will sound an alert whenever you need to make a turn, followed by the regular text-to-speech instruction (i.e. Alert Tone -> Voice: "Turn Right on North Main Street").
