20. Pros

  • Easy to use, well designed, user interface
  • Bright screen
  • Good customer support
  • Automatic map zooming adjusts the map zoom level based on your speed and the current maneuver
  • Well designed map screen is easy to understand
  • Large POI database of 6 million entries
  • Zippy and responsive to use
  • Ability to navigate to lat/long coordinates

21. Cons

  • More expensive than the better nüvi 205
  • No way to exclude a specific road from a planned route
  • Can't customize the information displayed on the map screen's information bar (the nüvi 7x5 models let you view distance, remaining time, direction of travel, elevation, or time of day )
  • Limited Detour function
  • Cannot customize map colors
  • Windshield mount isn't powered
  • No QWERTY keyboard layout option
  • No text-to-speech (GPS doesn't speak actual street names, just generic instructions like "turn left in 1 mile")
  • Doesn't support for optional traffic receivers
  • Only supports a single waypoint, or stop, along a route. No real multi-destination support
  • USB cable not included

22. Conclusion

Garmin's nüvi 200 is a good, basic GPS unit that offers excellent ease of use for well under $200. However, the nüvi 200 lacks the numerous map enhancements found on the newer, less expensive nüvi 205, as well as the 205's improved routing engine, more sensitive GPS receiver, and compatibility with optional traffic receivers.

All things considered, there's little reason to buy the nüvi 200 - especially given that the 205 sells for around $30 less than the older nüvi 200.
