Yahoo! will begin distributing the bikes this week to some of Flickr's most prolific photographers in the U.S., Europe, Asia, and Australia. Each rider, it is hoped, will capture, chronicle, and share their lives through pictures and experiences via a geotagged map on Flickr, viewable on StartWearingPurple.com.
Each bike is equipped with a solar-powered digital camera, mounted on the handlebar. The camera automatically snaps a photo every 60 seconds when the bike is in motion, and automatically shares it on an interactive map that joins all the riders lives and experiences, as well as to the riders' individual page on Flickr.
Yahoo! will then allow visitors to vote on the most interesting photos, and create new assignments to send the 2-wheeled photographers on.
The bikes were built in collaboration with Yahoo!, Electra Bikes (San Diego) and Uncommon Projects (Brooklyn).
