First Garmin-Equipped Cell Becomes Reality

Gigabyte Communications of Taiwan recently announced the arrival of the GSmart i350, the world's first cell phone with built-in GPS navigation software designed by Garmin, not to mention a SiRF Star III receiver.

While Garmin previously partnered with Sony Ericsson and LG to bundle its navigation software, the cell phones required external GPS antennas and additional software. This is the first time that Garmin's navigation software has been developed jointly with a cellphone maker. The GSmart i350 will not only include the software built in, but it will also have SiRF Star III chip for all your GPS tracking needs. The i350 is expected to only support more than 60,000 points of interest.

Gigabyte Communications is expecting to distribute the i350 in Taiwan first, but the company is expected to explore the overseas markets and eventually make its way to the U.S.

I know several cell phones have some built in-navigation (like Verizons horrible VZ Naviagtor), but this could be a nice chance get some good software and leave the annoying peripherals at home.
