Cellular Navigation Poised to Grow 5x in 4 years (but study find US consumers still want portable GPS devices)

According to a recent survey in TWICE (This Week in Consumer Electronics), 50% of U.S. consumers said they would opt to buy a PND (Personal Navigation Device) over cell-phone based subscription services.

Moreover, the study finds that about one third of respondents said they would be willing to use two or more GPS devices, such as a handheld, in-vehicle unit, and handheld device.

Looks like a rosy business outlook for GPS manufacturers and mapping providers indeed, with cellular navigation projected to gain 5x over the next 4 years, and the PND GPS market is estimated to experience similar gains.
