TeleNav Launches version 5.2. GPS on Your Celly, Now With Location Sharing, Traffic, & Spiffy New User Interface

TeleNav 5.2

TeleNav today announced the official launch of version 5.2 of their cell-phone based GPS navigation product, TeleNav. Back in December '06 I reviewed version 5, which was already impressive. Since that review, TeleNav has added traffic, pedestrian mode, and more.

Unlike previous version updates, 5.2 sports an entirely new user interface, designed by the legendary industrial design firm Frog Design. Eye candy aside, it looks like the new version will add some interesting new GPS-related features, including:

  • The ability to send your current location to other TeleNav users (or send an SMS message with your current location to non-TeleNav users)
  • The ability to review local restaurants, the browse the local directory of user-reviewed businesses
  • Improved "Fuel Finder" application that lets you locate the cheapest gas pump prices in your area

Pricing remains the same as previous TeleNav subscriptions, which runs around $10/month, depending on your carrier. Initially only Sprint gets the TeleNav 5.2 love, but no doubt others will follow soon enough. More information on TeleNav can be found on the company's homepage.
