TomTom just announced new, updated maps available for the entire TomTom product line. The maps, called version 6.75, are only available via TomTom's website, and are based on the TeleAtlas 2007.1 (January 2007) map data. That's pretty recent map data to get on a GPS considering it's not uncommon to have mapping data that's several years old on a GPS. The new maps will run you about $135 (€ 99) for U.S. or Western Europe (other regions are also available).
Here's how you get the maps.
The maps are available via TomTom's Map Shop. This is welcome news, as TomTom's maps have always been the achilles heal of the handsome devices (well, that and the god-aweful customer support). When I reviewed the popular TomTom ONE last year, I loved the device but had to rank it poorly because the TeleAtlas powered maps just couldn't compete with NAVTEQ's (used by Garmin, Magellan, and most online mapping websites). If the new maps deliver on the promise of the latest maps available, I just might have to reconsider my ranking of the GO 910 and ONE.
