After a small hiccup on the inital release, Magellan has made firmware v.1.22 available for download via their website. I just downloaded and installed the 35MB update and everything went smoothly (although there's no MacOS or Vista support, so I had to do the update on a Windows XP machine).
The Maestro reboots 3 times during the update, and briefly displays a strange message about being connected via USB even though it is not, but nevertheless the update installed without a hitch. Looks like it's a relatively minor update, adding support for the optional traffic kit and enabling the maneuvering list before you start driving. A few weeks ago I posted my in-depth review of the 4040, and found the unit to be full of potential, but not quite ready for prime time.
Still not fixed with this update is pretty much everything I listed in my review: no ETA displayed on the map, fonts too small, overly verbose voice prompts, and a routing engine that is slow to accept an alternate route. I'm also hoping someone at Magellan will update the "night" mode to change the color scheme for all screens - not just the map screen.
