CES 2007 Coverage: Cobra Does GPS

Cobra NAV ONE 2100
Cobra, whose name is virtually synonymous with CB radios, is expanding its GPS line-up with the NAV ONE 2100 (huh? Shouldn’t it be called the NAV twenty-one hundred?). The NAV ONE 2100 is geared towards the budget consumer and focuses on ease of use. Here’s the specs:

  • Optional real-time traffic for $99 (+$60/year subscription)
  • Automatic “Compare Routes” feature allows drivers to view and select one of two different re-routing options
  • Choice of 2D or 3D maps, 14 levels of map zoom, and multiple sky backgrounds
  • One touch “Go Home” feature
  • Personalized route preferences allow drivers to choose or avoid certain types of roads and select route criteria (e.g. avoid tolls or avoid freeways)
  • SD expansion slot allows for future feature expansion; first planned expansion is light/speed camera database providing drivers advance location alert
  • 3.5” high-resolution color touch screen with ultra bright backlighting.
  • POI Database (Cobra’s documentation says there are “millions” of POIs in the database, but doesn’t say specifically how many)
  • iA.S.A.P. technology provides for faster satellite acquisition and uninterrupted navigation even in obstructed areas such as dense foliage and urban canyons
  • Consumer-controlled speed warnings allow the drive to set a speed limit and receive verbal notification if the speed is exceeded
  • Widest temperature range among consumer navigation units allows for product functionality in -4 to 158 degree (Fahrenheit) weather
  • SmartPower feature senses when the unit is not being actively used and automatically powers down the unit to save power.

The NAV ONE 2100 will be available at a suggested retail price of $349.95. The optional real-time traffic feature is $99.95 with an annual traffic service subscription fee of $59.99 per year.
